If you have been thinking about converting from QuickBooks Desktop to QuickBooks Online, now may be the time to make the switch. Beginning with QuickBooks Desktop 2023, you will no longer be able to make a one-time purchase of the software. Instead, the newest release of the software will only be available on an annual subscription basis. QuickBooks Desktop Pro Plus and Mac Plus subscription fees for 1 user will increase to $549/year while fees for 1 user of QuickBooks Desktop Premier Plus will increase to $799/year.
Intuit is also changing their pricing structure for the Enhanced and Basic payroll subscriptions for both QuickBooks Desktop and Online. At the time your subscription is set to renew, you will pay $5 per employee per month for Enhanced and Basic payroll subscriptions. This change also applies to any companies who are currently on an older pricing plan with direct deposit fees and no monthly fee per employee. The new QuickBooks pricing model, which includes no direct deposit fee for W-2 employees and a $1.75 fee per direct deposit for 1099 contractors for each subscription is as follows:

$500/year + $5 per employee per month
(Incorporating Standard Payroll Monthly)
$50/month + $5 per employee per month
$350/year + $5 per employee per month
$35/month + $5 per employee per month
Additionally, beginning on January 10, 2023, Microsoft will no longer provide security updates or support PCs running on Windows 8.1. This means that any QuickBooks Desktop users that are currently running Windows 8.1 will not be able to upgrade to QuickBooks Desktop 2023 without first updating their computer’s operating system.
