QuickBooks Online has extended its support deadline for its Tags feature from May 1 to May 16, 2025. The Tags feature is being replaced by their new Custom Fields feature. In addition to QuickBooks Online, QuickBooks Ledger and Intuit Enterprise Suite (IES) will also no longer support tags. Intuit also made some changes to give users more time to navigate this transition.
Starting May 16, 2025, users will no longer be able to create tags for reporting insights purposes. Instead, included in most QuickBooks Online plans, users will be able to migrate their tags to a custom field for tracking and reporting purposes. Please Note: QuickBooks Ledger does not support custom fields.
Also, Intuit has added a custom field to most plans; see the table below for specific plan level details. This change is being rolled out to all customers, regardless of their use of tags. QuickBooks Online also expanded the capabilities of custom fields. Custom fields will support both sales and expense forms. Each custom field will support 100 values with a drop-down or “pick-list” format. To learn more about the capabilities and limitations of custom fields, read Intuit's Help Article and FAQs.
From March 17, 2025, through May 15, 2025, users have the option to migrate all tags to a custom field. Read this help article to learn how to use the Tags -> Custom Field migration tool. Alternatively, users can input their current tag values into the custom field by hand or not transfer the tags at all. Be sure to download any tags reports for your records.
If you’re using QuickBooks Ledger and would like to maintain tags, you have the option to upgrade to QuickBooks Online by May 14th and migrate tags to custom fields. This migration tool will be available from March 17, 2025, through May 15, 2025.
